Why a dull website?

Besides the point that the background of the website is plain, the length of the words are very long with numerous paragraphs without any images.

In this case take the "In the Media" link for example. There are hundreds of pages in this link. However, all the pages are similar to this which are full of wordings.

Number of links are too consolidated together, suggestion to improve this is to put a "next page" system or "Go to page" search to get to the page you want to view.




Overall this website has lots of informations but lacking in their web's design and attraction to the website. It can be useful to those that wants to get up to date information on design events and happenings in Singapore.

How is the navigation bar and links on the dull website?

How is the navigation bar?

It is a fixed vertical navigation bar. It does not collapse and retracts like the navigation bar in the website "PRADA". The image below shows all the main links, they are blue in colour. Only when you open a particular main link the wordings of the link turns bold and black in colour. In this case the opened link is "HOME":



While the sub-links are opened only if the main link is being selected. Again we select the main link "EVENTS" which is what is similarly did to the "PRADA" website:

The sub-link of "EVENTS" appear just below it,"Submit Events".


This navigation bar is not as fancy as the one compared to "PRADA" website, it is just a simple navigation bar.

This website shows to be very informative as there are many links, lengthy wordings and paragraphs with no images at all.

Lets see the links on the "HOME" page:

The before and after view: Those being boxed and circled are links, the ones with red borders are external links while the other coloured borders are internal links.

This is a website which is considered dull and boring. The first impression of this web's design does not give viewers a big impact and doesn't leave a good impression to the viewers. It is not colourful, not fancy, little images and has a white background.

Image on the left: is a bottom view of this website. It is mostly occupied by words and image links and doesn't have any pictures. The background is the main problem as it is plain white in colour.

The only pictures in the whole website is the image links. Above is one of the examples. This image is made up of very simple images as the background with a black border for contrast and some wordings.

The other image links are, the following:


They are mostly external links and publishing of advertisements about design related things or design events in Singapore.

This image below: Shows very plain wordings for the subjects of the web page. Contrast of colours are being seen but black and white theme (background is white, words are black) for most of the content of this web page is kind of dull and boring.

Reasons on why it is not a dull website.

The main reason on why "PRADA" website is not a dull and boring site is because it is not only full of colours, the colours are also carefully picked so that it can be seen clearly and adds contrast in the web page.

Image on the right: Shows a very brief information on the topic "WALLPAPER". The words are not lengthy and difficult to understand, their focus are on the images. The images not only attracts attention but also gives information to the viewers on what it is all about.

As you can see, wordings are very short.

Talking about images, a good website includes videos and animations too.

Above is the fashion shows videos where their products are being worn by models.

Above image: Not forgetting an animation to illustrate the inspiration of the designs and how it come about.

The links to view the different gender fashion shows shows evidences that this website's targeted audience is definately for adults or teenagers and not for children.

How is the viewing made to convenience?

Something special and well thought from this website is that the links are being TAB in a single web page.

Whenever you open a link within this website, it automatic open a tab within their own website. This make the website easier to view, reduce the number of windows open and for convenience sake.

It is a well-planned website, in reference to this website functions, i learn that convenience in a website is important which i should apply it in my own web.

How PRADA navigation works?

How does the navigation works?

Those stated at the navigation seen on this image on the left is mainly main links. Some are divided into other sub-links.

For example: EVENTS main link. It consist of other sub-links but for you to see those sub-links the main link "EVENTS" is to be clicked.

Once it is being clicked, the sub-links would collapse down as shown on the image(left).


However, once the main link containing the sub-links is clicked whenever your cursor is placed on the word "PRADA" the sub-links can be seen. Therefore re-clicking the main link which in this situation is the EVENTS, would allow the sub-links to retract back, leaving the main links on the navigation bar.

It is easy to use as viewers does not need to click so many buttons in order to find the specific link the viewer wants to view. The not automated retraction of sub-links allow us to view all the sub-links one by one by not clicking the main link again which saves up time.

Why is this website user friendly?

The BEFORE: On the extreme upper corner on the left, where the word "PRADA" is presented with a column of navigations once you enter the site.

It is then retracted back leaving the word "PRADA". This is to ensure that when somebody enters this website, they would have a preview on where is the navigations of this web page. At the same time, having a "cleaner" background that look just like a normal image instead of a website. Informing the viewers where is the navigation, is important.

The AFTER: In order to collapse down the navigation bar, your cusor is to be on the word "PRADA". It will automatically collapse for you and the best of it is that you don have to click it!

This is the main page of the "PRADA" website. It is full of colours, artistic drawings and the fashionable outfits that the model is wearing is considered a bonus added to the attraction of this website.
Plain Coloured backgrounds is not being used, instead images are used to illustrate the web page in order to allow costumers or viewers to this website get an idea on what designs of the products are available.
The above background image of the main page is not fixed there are other images such as:

There are up to fifteen (15) different background images on the main page of the website, every now and then you enter the site or refresh the site, mostly likely the background image would be different from the previous. The change of background images on the main page is most likely randomly place every time you re-enter the site.

As you can see, the targeted audience are not only women, as images includes fashion for men which widens the area of audience. Their products are mainly for adults because children's fashion images are not included.

These images are high-quality and clear. The perfection on the fashion and models used are being presented in a way that gives an impression to people that it is a "High-Class website".
